Kerbstone & Side Stone Mould Buyer Guide

48 qualified moulds across 16 profile families, from 20 cm corner pieces to 50 cm straight runs. Slope and S-type profiles are the volume products; corner and elbow pieces exist so a kerb line can actually turn.

The six profile families

  • Slope kerbstone (10 sizes): the workhorse. 35×35, 49×18 up to 50×20×20 cm. A sloped top face sheds water toward the carriageway.
  • S-type kerbstone (10 sizes): curved S face, 30×29 to 50×35 cm. Used where a softer transition between road and footway is wanted.
  • L-type kerbstone (4 sizes): right-angle section, 25×20 to 49.5×36 cm. Also available with a flat outer edge.
  • Curved kerbstone (4 sizes): radius units for bends and islands, including a 20×30×15 cm angled integrated profile.
  • Line-profile kerbstone (4 sizes): flat-faced with a recessed line, 30×30×12 to 50×15×6 cm.
  • Chamfered & angled (5 sizes): bevelled top arris, 50×10×10 to 50×12×15.5 cm.

Three things buyers get wrong

  • “50 × 35 × 18–7” is not a tolerance. On slope and S-type kerbs the last pair is the height at each end of the same unit — 18 cm at the high end, 7 cm at the low end. That taper is the drainage fall built into the kerb. Read as a tolerance band you will order a mould that cannot produce your channel gradient, so always confirm which end your drawing dimension refers to.
  • A corner marked “30–30” means outer and inner arc length. Same convention as our power coping corners: the two figures are the outside and inside face of one curved piece, not length by width. Corner and elbow units must also be ordered in the same profile family as the straight runs, or the faces will not line up at the joint.
  • “1-out-2” changes your unit price maths. The 50×13×10 cm water-barrier mould casts two pieces per pour. When you compare quotations, check whether the price is per finished kerb or per mould — a 1-out-2 tool at twice the price is the same cost per unit, with half the cycle time.

Specifying a kerb line, not just a kerb

Kerbs are bought by the run, and a run is never all straight. Working out the corner and transition pieces before quoting avoids a second shipment later.

  • Count straight metres first, then every bend, and note the radius of each.
  • For each bend decide whether it is served by a curved unit or by a corner/elbow piece — we hold both.
  • Drainage inlets need the S-type drainage kerb (49.5×29×20 cm) with its notch and hole; count these separately.
  • Where the kerb line ends at a barrier or island, the traffic separator mould (50×35×50 cm, Ø5 cm hole) finishes it.
  • Confirm whether your project measures kerb height from the channel or from the finished footway level.

Production notes

Kerbs are high-volume repeat castings, so demoulding behaviour matters more than on one-off components.

  • Sloped and chamfered top faces carry the visible arris — ABS holds that edge sharper over many cycles.
  • Long 50 cm units benefit from a stiffer wall to stay straight when handled wet.
  • Typical service life is 300+ pour cycles with normal demoulding practice.
  • Send a section drawing rather than a product name: two kerbs called “slope kerb” can differ by 10 cm in width.

What does a size like “50 × 35 × 18–7 cm” mean on a kerbstone mould?

The last pair is the height at the two ends of the same kerb: 18 cm at the high end and 7 cm at the low end. That taper is the drainage fall designed into the unit, not a tolerance or a size range. Tell us which end your drawing dimension refers to so the gradient comes out right.

How do I read the two figures on a curved or corner unit?

They are the outer and inner arc length of one piece, the same convention we use on power coping corners. A “30–30” corner measures 30 cm along both faces; it is not 30 by 30 cm in plan.

Do corner pieces work with any straight kerb?

PP or ABS for kerbstone moulds?

ABS where the top arris is chamfered or sloped and must stay sharp across many cycles; PP for plain high-volume production. Both give 300+ pour cycles with normal demoulding practice.
