The flat-laid half of the road kerb & drainage system

Upright kerbstones hold the road edge; flat kerb stones and strip stones lie flat to carry surface water toward the drain and to smooth the transition between carriageway and footway. They are a natural cross-sell with our kerbstone moulds and drainage channel moulds.

Zhihua supplies small square flat stones, high-cavity strip stones, 50 cm flat kerb and gutter strip stones, and oversized 71–80 cm apron slabs (including four-hole drainage slabs and project-logo units). Standard catalogue sizes and OEM road-authority profiles are both available in PP or ABS.

Flat Kerb & Strip Stone Mould Buyer Guide

Flat-laid kerb stones are often confused with upright kerbstones, but they are specified differently. Get these points right and the drainage line will sit flat and flow correctly.

Typical flat stone types

  • Small square flat stones (8–19 cm): footway/courtyard paving and patching; 1-out-5 / 1-out-6 multi-cavity for volume.
  • Strip stones (20 cm class, 1-out-2 / 1-out-10): narrow border/edge strips; multi-cavity keeps unit cost low.
  • 50 cm flat kerb & gutter strip stones: the standard road module. Narrow 8–12 cm widths sit in the gutter channel; wider 15–16 cm flats form the apron.
  • Round-top strip kerbs: a slightly raised rounded edge in the gutter line.
  • 71–80 cm apron slabs: wide transition panels around drains and crossings; four-hole versions drain through the slab.

What to get right when ordering

  • Flat-laid vs upright: confirm the unit lies down (flat stone / ping shi) or stands up (kerbstone). A flat stone's third dimension is usually small; a tall 18×30 or 12×30 unit is a standing profile.
  • Order by face width for drainage: the gutter strip width sets how much water the channel captures; the apron width sets the transition zone. Send a cross-section.
  • Cavities change the price: 1-out-10 makes ten pieces per pour. Compare quotes per finished stone, not per mould.
  • Thin veneer slabs are real: 0.5–2 cm thin panels are veneer/wear-course units, not undersized stones.
  • Match the apron to the kerb family: flat stones, upright kerbs and covers in one run should share a profile so joints line up.

What to send for a fast quote

Flat kerb and strip stone jobs usually follow a road cross-section. A drawing or clear photo of the profile lets us confirm width, thickness, chamfer/bevel, cavities and demoulding direction.

  • Finished stone length, face width and thickness/height
  • Flat-laid (flat stone) or standing (tall kerb) profile
  • Number of cavities wanted (1-out-2 / 1-out-10 for volume)
  • Application: gutter channel, apron transition, footway, median or courtyard
  • Any project/authority logo and PP or ABS preference
  • Quantity, destination country and mixed-SKU requirements

Flat Kerb & Strip Stone Mould FAQ

What is a flat kerb stone (ping shi / flat stone) and how is it different from a kerbstone?

A kerbstone (lu yuan shi / curbstone) is the upright road-edge unit that contains traffic and separates road from footway. A flat kerb stone (ping shi, flat stone or side-flat stone) is laid FLAT, typically between the upright kerb and the carriageway or gutter: it forms the smooth apron/transition strip that guides surface water toward the drain. Round-top strip stones and gutter strip stones sit in the same flat-laid drainage line. They are a complementary family, usually ordered together with upright kerbstones.

How do I read a size like 50 x 15 x 15 cm on a flat kerb stone?

It is length x width (the flat face width) x height/thickness, in centimetres. For flat-laid stones the last figure is usually small (6-21 cm) because the unit lies down; for tall flat kerbs (e.g. 79 x 18 x 30) the last figure is the standing height. On thin veneer slabs such as 18.5 x 18.5 x 0.5 cm, 0.5 cm is the real veneer thickness, not a typo.

What does 1-out-2, 1-out-6 or 1-out-10 mean?

It is the number of finished pieces one mould casts per pour. A 1-out-10 strip-stone mould makes ten small stones in a single cycle. More cavities mean lower cost per piece and faster output for high-volume items, but the mould is larger. When comparing quotes, check whether the price is per mould or per finished stone.

Flat kerb stone or gutter strip stone - which do I need next to a drain?

Use a gutter strip stone (the narrow 8-12 cm wide, often deeper units) right at the channel to carry the water, and wider flat kerb apron slabs (up to 48-50 cm wide) as the transition toward the footway or carriageway. Round-top strip stones are used where a slightly raised, rounded edge is wanted in the gutter line. Send a cross-section and we will match the profile.

Are the big 71-80 cm slabs strong enough as thin as 6-8 cm?

Yes, when cast as precast concrete on a flat vibrating table. These wide apron slabs are flat panels, not beams, and they gain stiffness from their width and the sub-base under them. The mould has stiffening ribs on the outside so it stays flat through casting. Handle and store big slabs flat, not on edge.

PP or ABS for flat kerb and strip stone moulds?

PP (polypropylene) is the default for high-volume plain flat stones - it flexes under vibration and demoulding and reaches 150+ pour cycles. ABS is chosen where a sharp chamfer, a dished/concave face or a thin crisp arris must stay precise over many cycles; several of our small and 50 cm items are stocked in ABS. Tell us the profile and we will recommend the grade.

Can you add a project or road-authority logo to the slab?

Yes. We already produce project-marked units (e.g. the 75 x 49 x 8 cm slab with a Guizhou road-bridge authority mark). Four-hole and standard apron slabs can be tooled with your logo or marking from artwork; OEM tooling takes about 10-15 days.

What is the MOQ and lead time?

Standard catalogue flat kerb, strip stone and apron slab moulds have no strict MOQ and mixed-SKU orders are welcome. Lead time is typically 15-30 days; OEM/profile or logo tooling depends on complexity. Send sizes, quantities and destination port for an FOB Ningbo/Shanghai quote.
