Manhole Shaft Ring Brick & Well Wall Brick Moulds

Curved ring brick moulds that build circular manhole shafts at inner diameters of 70, 80, 90, 110, 130 and 150 cm, plus straight and corner well wall brick moulds for rectangular chambers. Build the chamber, not just the cover

A precast manhole is two separate purchases. The cover and frame close the top; the shaft below it is built course by course from bricks. Casting those bricks yourself, on site or in a local yard, removes the freight cost of shipping heavy finished rings and lets one mould serve hundreds of chambers.

Shaft Brick Mould Buyer Guide

Three numbers decide whether a ring closes: inner diameter, brick width and pieces per course. They have to come from the same drawing.

One mould equals one diameter

Each ring brick mould is cut to a single arc. That arc is what makes the course close into a true circle, and it is why the piece count is not a choice:

  • Ø 70 cm — 7 bricks per course, 17.5 cm wide
  • Ø 80 cm — 8 bricks per course, 18.5 cm wide
  • Ø 90 cm — 9 bricks per course
  • Ø 110 cm — 11 bricks per course, 24 cm wide
  • Ø 130 cm — 23.5 cm wide (R65)
  • Ø 150 cm — 24 cm wide (R75)

A Ø 90 cm mould will not build a Ø 110 cm shaft. If your project mixes diameters, you need one mould per diameter — that is normal, and mixed-SKU shipments are standard for us.

Inner diameter is not excavation width

Every diameter on this page is the inner diameter — the clear bore a worker climbs down. The outer diameter is the inner figure plus twice the brick width:

  • Ø 110 cm bore + 2 × 24 cm walls ≈ 158 cm outer
  • Ø 70 cm bore + 2 × 17.5 cm walls ≈ 105 cm outer

Trench and shoring width comes from the outer figure. Buyers who size excavation from the bore end up short by roughly half a metre on the large diameters.

Course height and reinforcement

Ring bricks here are 20 cm high, so a 3 m deep shaft is 15 courses. We do not publish load or depth ratings: those depend on your concrete mix, any vertical reinforcement threaded through the wall, and the surrounding backfill — not on the plastic mould.

How many ring bricks do I need per course, and how is that decided?

It is fixed by the mould, not by you on site. Each ring brick mould is cut to one arc, so a Ø 70 cm shaft takes 7 bricks per course, Ø 80 cm takes 8, Ø 90 cm takes 9 and Ø 110 cm takes 11. The pieces only close into a circle at their own diameter, so a Ø 90 cm mould cannot be used to build a Ø 110 cm shaft.

Is the diameter you quote the inner diameter or the outer diameter?

Inner diameter — the clear bore of the finished shaft. Add twice the brick width for the outer size: a Ø 110 cm shaft with 24 cm wide bricks measures about 158 cm across the outside. Excavation width is sized from the outer figure, so always confirm which one your drawing uses before ordering.

What is the difference between shaft ring bricks and well wall bricks?

Ring bricks are curved segments for circular shafts and only fit one diameter. Well wall bricks are straight rectangular units, used for square or rectangular inspection chambers and for straight wall runs; the 30 x 15 x 17.3 cm unit has a tongue and groove so courses interlock, and the 32 x 18 x 17.3 cm corner brick turns the corner while keeping the same course height.

Can you make ring brick moulds for a diameter that is not listed?

Yes. Give us the inner diameter, the wall thickness you want and the course height, and we set the arc and the piece count so the ring closes exactly. Odd diameters are routine work; what matters is that all three figures come from the same drawing.
