Kerbstone & Curbstone Moulds Buying Guide

How to choose road curb, side stone, L-type, S-type, slope and radius kerbstone moulds for municipal roads, medians and landscaping projects.

Kerbstone moulds and curbstone moulds are widely used for municipal roads, sidewalks, traffic medians, parking lots, parks, residential communities and landscaping boundaries. For overseas buyers, choosing the right mould starts with the local road profile, not only the product name.

Zhihua supplies kerbstone, curbstone, road curb and side stone moulds for standard catalogue products and OEM profiles from drawings or sample photos.

1. Confirm the local kerb profile

Different markets use different words for similar products: kerbstone, curbstone, road curb, side stone, road edge stone or concrete kerb. Before asking for a quote, confirm the finished concrete profile and installation purpose.

  • Slope kerbstone moulds: used where a sloped surface is needed for road edges, parking areas or drainage transitions.
  • L-type curbstone moulds: common for road edges, sidewalks and boundary applications.
  • S-type side stone moulds: often used for medians, separators and local road standards.
  • Straight kerb moulds: suitable for long road sections and simple boundary lines.
  • Radius kerbstone moulds: needed for curves, corners, islands and turning sections.

2. Measure the finished concrete product

For road curb moulds, the critical dimensions are length, height, top width, bottom width, slope angle, radius and chamfer. If your project follows a government or road-authority standard, send the cross-section drawing first.

If only a sample is available, provide clear photos from the front, side and top. Adding a ruler or known-size reference helps the factory judge the dimensions more accurately.

3. Straight pieces and radius pieces should match

Many road projects need both straight kerbstones and curved kerbstones. The radius corner piece should match the straight profile, otherwise the line may look inconsistent after installation. When requesting a quote, tell the supplier the curve radius or turning angle.

4. How radius kerbs are actually cast

A curved kerb line is not one bent unit. The arc is divided into segments, and each segment is a tapered block β€” shorter on the inner face than on the outer face β€” so the pieces close a true arc with even joints. A mould marked R1000 and 1/3, for example, casts one third of a 1-metre-radius arc per piece.

Two rules follow from this:

  • One mould equals one radius. If a project has bends at different radii, each needs its own mould.
  • Corner pieces must be from the same profile family as the straight runs. A chamfered corner will not line up with a line-profile straight kerb.

Watch how this works in our short video: radius kerb moulds R1000 β€” how curved kerb lines are cast.

5. Choose standard catalogue or OEM moulds

Standard kerbstone moulds can reduce cost and delivery time when the dimensions already fit your market. OEM moulds are better when your local authority has a fixed profile, special chamfer, drainage edge or project-specific radius.

For OEM work, a drawing is best. If there is no drawing, a clear sample photo plus finished dimensions can still support an initial feasibility review.

6. Match kerbstones with drainage and paver products

Kerbstone moulds are a strong cross-sell with drainage channel moulds and concrete paver block moulds. Municipal roads, sidewalks and landscaping projects often need road curbs, drainage covers and paving slabs together.

For distributors and construction-material factories, a mixed product line can make the catalogue more complete and increase the chance of repeat orders.

7. What to send for a fast quote

  • Finished kerbstone length, height, top width and bottom width
  • Profile drawing, road-authority standard or clear sample photos
  • Type: slope, L-type, S-type, straight, radius or corner piece
  • Required radius or turning angle for curved sections
  • Application: road edge, median, sidewalk, parking area or landscaping
  • Order quantity, destination country and whether mixed profiles are needed

8. Reading kerbstone dimensions without mistakes

Two dimension conventions cause most quoting errors:

  • Tapered heights like “50 Γ— 35 Γ— 18–7 cm” are not a tolerance. On slope and S-type kerbs the last pair is the height at each end of the same unit β€” the taper is the drainage fall built into the kerb. Say which end your drawing refers to.
  • Corner figures like “30–30” are the outer and inner arc length of one curved piece, not length by width in plan. State the corner angle and confirm it with your straight-run profile.

With a section drawing these ambiguities disappear β€” that is why we ask for one rather than just a product name.

9. Kerbstone, curbstone, side stone: the same product by regional names

Buyers search for the same mould under several names: kerbstone moulds (British English), curbstone molds (American English), road curb moulds, side stone moulds, road edge stone moulds and concrete kerb moulds. They are the same product family. What actually differs between markets is the standard profile β€” the height, width, chamfer and slope used by local road authorities β€” so always confirm the cross-section rather than matching on words.

10. Avoid vague quote requests

A request such as β€œsend kerbstone mould price” is usually too broad. A useful request includes the profile type, dimensions, quantity and photos. This avoids quoting the wrong mould and helps the supplier check whether a standard item can be used.

Kerbstone mould FAQ

Is a kerbstone mould the same as a curbstone mold?

Yes. Kerbstone is British English and curbstone American; mould and mold are the same word spelled differently. Road curb, side stone, road edge stone and concrete kerb also refer to the same product family. Match the cross-section profile rather than the name.

What does a size like 50 Γ— 35 Γ— 18–7 cm mean?

The last two figures are the height at the two ends of the same unit: 18 cm at the high end and 7 cm at the low end. That taper is the drainage fall built into slope and S-type kerbs, not a tolerance. State which end your drawing dimension refers to.

How many radius moulds do I need for a curved kerb line?

One mould corresponds to one radius. A curve is cast as tapered segments β€” for example R1000 divided into thirds β€” and each segment is shorter on the inner face so joints close evenly. Several radii on one project mean several moulds.

Can corner pieces be used with any straight kerb?

No. Corner and elbow units must come from the same profile family as the straight runs, or the faces will not align at the joint. Order chamfered, line-profile or curved-angled corners to match the profile you cast.

Should I choose PP or ABS for kerbstone moulds?

Choose ABS where the top arris is chamfered or sloped and must stay sharp over hundreds of cycles; PP is the economical choice for plain high-volume production. Both give 150+ pour cycles with normal demoulding practice.

Need kerbstone moulds for a road or landscaping project?

Send your kerb profile drawing, sample photo or dimensions. We can review standard catalogue options or OEM mould feasibility.
